Probably because which ever link system you are using prepends information to the url, which breaks the system. It's not a comment on your comment, if you see what I mean and it may not have been deleted, just ignored..

I can confirm that's the case, the url you used was prefixed with 'doc/doc/'. Your comment has been reinstated, this time, but I don't have time to do that all the time and will not guarantee it happening again. Not using a proper name and email makes it less likely as well.

If my comment was considered as irrelevant, deleting it was for sure to consider. But I wish I know why it was regarded as such.

Displacement, deadweight or burthen: from a ton to another one.

Currently ship size is measured in tons, but these tons can give displacement, deadweight tonnage (both being weights), or burthen (measuring room).

L'Hortense, according to a French admiral, had a displacement of 1396 «tonneaux de poids» ≈ 1367ｔ (SI) or 1345 long tons, and a deadweight tonnage of a bit over 718 ≈704ｔ (SI) or 692 long tons. Her burthen, as measured in France, was: lenght × beam × depth to deck = 144 × 36⅔ × 19 ÷ 94 ≈ 1067 «tonneaux de jauge», which was near to the burthen given by British lists for her sisterships taken by the Royal Navy (some 1080 tons), despite a different formula was used.

So, for the same frigate, some lists gave 1396 «tonneaux», other might give 1067 «tonneaux» (whereas burthen was very rarely considered in the French Navy), and most refered to her as a 718 «tonneaux» ship.
