My 6th great grandfather, John Hovey, of Newbury, MA is on a list of men from Salem (less than 30 miles from Newbury so I presume it's him) who served on the Junius Brutus and were taken prisoner by "the enemy" but brought to Boston in Oct 1778 on the Silver Eel in a prisoner exchange. Do you think that means the Junius Brutus was captured twice? Or maybe only some of the prisoners were exchanged in Boston?

Looking for information about impressed seamen who were held prisoner on the Junius Brutus and released in St. Johns, Nfld when the war ended in 1783.

Can anyone help?
