September 10, 1694; French privateer captain Joannis de Suhigaraychipy, commander of l’Aigle a French fifth rate ship of the line, having letters of marque, was part of a squadron of four French war ships (l’ Aigle, le Favory, le Prudent, le Gaillard) under the command of squadron leader Saint Clair who was defeated by British Captain Holman at the battle of Ferryland in the Newfoundland.
