Admiralty-Office, May 22, 1798.

Copy of a letter from Captain Wollaston, of His Majesty's Sloop Cruizer, to Evan Nepean, Eff; dated at Sheerness, May 20, 1798. . .

SIR, I beg you will inform their Lordships, that on the 19 th Instant, Lowestoff N. W. by W. 6 or 7 leagues, we fell in with 2 French Republican Luggers, one of which carried away her main and foremast during the chace, when we continued in chafe of the other until 5 P. M. at which time we could just see the other from the mast head to Leeward ; as the chace was then gaining on us, and the one that had struk was not secured, I. left off chace and stood for her: Upon taking possession I found her to be Le Chasseur, from Honfleur, out 8 days, mounting 4 6-pounders, and manned wich 48 men ; had not taken any thing. Her Consort was Le Dragon, mounting 4 6-pounders, both new vessels, and sailed from Honfleur together, and were going to cruize on the Dogger Bank. During the chace Le Dragon have overboard her boat and several other things, but I could not perceive whether he threw her guns over or not.
l am, &c
C. WOLLASTON.
