Newfoundland, 16 July 1780: His Majesty’s ship Fairy, commanded by the Hon Capt Berkeley, arrived here the 8th of May after a passage of 29 days; and after refitting went out on a cruise, and took the Wilkes, an American privateer, of 16 guns and 70 men, after chasing her forty-one hours, and one hundred and nine leagues. On a second cruise she took the Griffin, another American privateer, of 14 guns and 50 men. [Exeter Flying Post, 8 September 1780]
