On 2 April 1782 US Hyder Ali [18-guns] recaptured HMS General Monk resulting in 8 Brits dead and some 29 men wounded. Captured Brits incarcerated in Philadelphia [?] prison included my Gt Gt GT grandfather, John Seagrove Snr. Where was the prison location, when was he released, and into whose charge was he placed for his [and other British seamen] return to England.

My ancestor, Captain Isaac Roach of the Pennsylvania Navy commanded the Hyder Ali during operations in Delaware Bay
in 1781. He participated in the recapture of the British prize, General Monk. This, according to records within the Pennsylvania Historical Society, Philadelphia, PA. Captain Roach also commanded "Hirt" "Congress" and "Charming Sally." He held commissions under Washington and Franklin copies of which are in my possesion.
