His Majesty's Ship Caroline, between the Cocos SIR, and Preparis Islands, Feb. 4, 18o4 ,

I have the pleasure to inform you that His Majesty's Ship under my command has had the good fortune to capture the French Privateer ship Le General de Caen, of 360 Tons, 22 Guns, and 200 Men, this forenoon. This ship fell to us by the superior sailing of the Caroline, both being under all possible sail, going large, our chace guns hulling her she struck. Came from the Isle of France, last from Mergui, is stored and victualled for 5 months, and had not made a capture.
