Lennox (often spelled "Lenox")is also listed as a 56 during the attack on Santiago de Cuba on March 28/April 8, 1748, in Herbert Richmond, _The Navy in the War of 1739-48_, vol. III, p. 126 (footnote). The reduction was probably made during a refit at Port Royal, Jamaica, over the winter of 1747-48. Since she had only 12 6-pounders, a pair of upper-deck 12s or main-deck 24s must also have been removed.

At the Battle of Havana, October 1/12, 1748, Lennox had only 56 guns mounted. I have not been able to find out what was removed, presumably because of weakness of the hull, or when (i.e., whether before or after the attack on Port St. Louis). Usually, the heaviest guns were kept if the ship could carry them; if not, they would be replaced by lighter guns (in this case, 24s by 18s) *if they were available,* which might not have been the case at Jamaica. A minimum removal would be 14 × 6-pounders.
