author of the 1805 naval novel Post Captain: Wooden Walls Well Manned, John Davis reports in his memoirs 'Four years and a half in America'' that he travelled to the East Indies on board the Worcester, and whilst onboard learned to read French and secure a love of literature and learning. It is to John Davis , via his novel about the Virginia colony that we owe our information about John Smith & Pocahontas.
