A letter from Captain Burnsides of the Phoenix, Vizagapatam, June 1, 1800 states:-
I am just arrived from the west coast of Sumatra, you have no doubt heard of the capture of the Montgomery, Capt Sinclair, belonging to the port of Calcutta. She had on board gold dust to the amount of 3000 dollars, and her officers and crew were landed at Tappanooly. [London Packet, 16 February 1801]
