An explosion occured aboard whilst lying at Plymouth . A quantity of powder had been carelessly left on the poop whilst the guns were being scaled. This took fire from some wads, and forty-five men were killed or injured.

Gentleman's Magazine March 26, 1762 - Was launched at Deptford, his Majesty's ship Charlotte, formerly the Kent, of 74 guns, the largest of that rate in the Royal Navy. Her figure at the head is William the Conqueror, in armour, painted in proper colours.
