I have in my possession the personal journal of Captain Henry Francis Greville which confirms he was the captain of HMS Trafalgar from 21 July 1851. The journal starts on the date he took command of HMS Trafalgar.

The 1861 census, recorded on the 6th of April 1861, has the captain as Edwd G Fanshaw.

Who knows, but somneone got it wrong.

Edward Gennys Fanshawe was captain of the Daphne from 1848 to 1852.
He was captain of the Trafalgar from 1859 to 1861, not in 1851.

I have just found a relative who was on HMS Trafalgar in 1851 - on looking at the census for that year the Captain names appears as Edward G Fanshawe - why is this
