The journal by David Lambert for this ship is TNA ADM 51/4271. Puzzling is another journal ADM 52/75 for a ship of the same name for the same period under the command of John Churchill.

Publication date:25 November 1680
Plymouth Nov. 23. Yesterday sailed from hence His Majesty's ship the Newcastle, Captain Russel Commander, with about 200 merchant ships under his convoy, bound for the straights, three of which, the smallest whereof in mounted with 28 guns , are in his Majesty's service and have on board the Earl Plymouths Regiment, consisting of 1200 men, with officers, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Kirke except 150 of them which are on board the Newcastle, as also 50 miners, raised in Cornwall for the service of Tangier.
