London, 3 February 1750: It not perhaps, unworthy of notice, that the Pembroke man of war, which was lost in April last, on the coast of Coromandel, had the misfortune to over set in Medway River, as she was falling down to Black Stakes in order to take in her guns; and by this accident seven of her officers, near a hundred of her men, and a good many women, who were on board to take leave of their husbands, were drowned. She had then just been rebuilt and rigged at Chatham. [Kentish Post, 7 February 1750]

According to his will, proved 15 June 1750, Richard Haddock (mariner, with a sister named Mary Haddock of Southwark) was serving on board the Pembroke (formerly the Buckingham). Was he a relation to Admiral Sir Richard Haddock or Admiral Nicholas Haddock? He was not a son to either one.

1749/04/13 Wrecked in a hurricane off Fort St David, Madras.
His Majesty's ship Pembroke of 60 guns struck on Colderoon Point, and over-set having parted her cable the 13th, at 6 P.M. she made sail out of Fort St. David road, but could not clear the point. Twelve men only were saved Captain Fincher and about 330 men were drowned and all the officers except a Capt. of the marines.
