Possibly a lightning strike.BWAS-171424.7.1798On July 23rd, the Resistance, 44, Captain Edward Pakenham, whilst at anchor in the Straits of Banca, blew up from some unexplained cause. Of the people on board her, 332 were killed and only thirteen survived. These clung to her wreckage, constructed a raft, and set sail for Sumatra, but a sudden storm arising, all but five perished. These five reached Sumatra and were imprisoned by the Malays. Eventually, only one man escaped.TRN4
