Miller ... it wasn’t just the Royal Navy that had ships named Tryton, and given that it set sail from Louisbourg (French) bound for Toulon (France), it is most likely the warship Triton (2369 in this database).

Toulon, 16 November 1751: The Tryton man of war, and the Gracious Frigate, are arrived here from Louisbourg, where they landed 500 quintals of powder. We learn that there have been some differences between the English and French at Nova Scotia, but that it had been friendly accommodated. Mr Chabert is returned in the Tryton, having been to make astronomical observations in North America. [Kentish Post, 27 November 1751]

In a letter addressed to the Navy Board, London, dated 8 October 1747, my 6th great grandfather,John Loney 1684-1751, wrote: "I humbly pray the favour to acquaint your Honour's that sometime ago I was recommended by the master shipwright of Portsmouth yard as one qualified for an overseer, and your Honour's was pleased to appoint me to OVERSEE THE BUILDING OF HIS MAJESTY'S SHIP TRITON which I did with the satisfaction to my officers of Portsmouth yard; your Honour's was pleased to favour me with a letter in May 1746 ---. ADM 106/1045/77
Thank you for giving me further information about the Triton.
