ADM 1/375 (33) is a report by Tuscan's Captain George Matthew Jones to Admiral A.K. Legge, commanding the Cadiz Squadron, of a desperate night action on 11 July 1812 in company with gun-brig HMS Endeavour (14). Jones was attempting to cut out three privateers sheltering in the little harbour of Chipiona beneath the cover of a battery of two guns. Chipiona is just north of Cadiz, on an estuary with shoals. One privateer was bought out despite the three being joined by iron chains. But Endeavour grounded and was lost, several of her crew wounded, several made prisoners (her Captain John Talbott was exonerated by court martial 20 July). Tuscan had one killed, two mortally wounded, 15 others wounded including, remarkably 6 of her 8 NCOs including the Captain's Clerk. In addition 1st Lieut Pascoe Dunn was severely wounded in the legs during the initial attack. He and 2nd Lieut William Ody were highly commended by Jones for their gallantry. Several casualties were marines, suggesting that the little ship had some 120 souls aboard at the time.

From his memorandum of Service (1817 - ADM 9/5/1401) Pascoe Dunn (1786-1826), Master's Mate and Acting Lieut on HMS Excellent (74) off Cadiz, joined Ronco 17 August 1808 after her capture in May, and was Acting Commander 24 August to November 1808. He then served as Actng Lieut to Captain John Wilson in the Mediterranean until 7 Jan 1809, when Dunn was commissioned Lieutenant. He then served under Captain G.M. Jones on the Cadiz Station, until suffering four wounds (details of action unknown) and discharged 30 October 1812. Dunn was promoted Commander (for rank and pension) 15 June 1814.
