Lt Thomas Eborall is also an ancestor of mine. I believe that the family fortunes started to slide when both Thomas Eborall and his wife, Sophia Ebern, died young, leaving four young children. In the next generation, Thomas' son William Wickens Eborall also died young, of typhoid fever, leaving his wife Amelia Salmon to look after five young children. My great-grandfather, George Eborall, was one of those four children. In 1851, Amelia and four of the children were depending upon poor relief from the workhouse.

Ancestor Lt Thomas Eborall served on board Venus under Cat K MacKenzie in the Gunboat Wars. he was injured "off the coast of Denmark," and subsequently put ashore in Leith. he was later pensioned off due to "severe injuries."
Does anyone know how I can find out about his injuries and treatment?
Thomas married in 1815, but died in 1822 "after a long illness."
Our family fortunes were destroyed by this occurrence, and it is a mystery as to what really happened, and why there was no money left from what had been a well to do family.
