Portsmouth, 23 November 1799: Arrived the Ant schooner, Lieutenant Alt, from a cruize. On Sunday off Brighton, he fell in wih a French privateer of 14 guns, in the act of boarding two colliers. He rescued he colliers and chased the privateer into Cherburgh. The above officer has given many other testimonies of his activity, spirit, and vigilance. [Hampshire Telegraph, 25 November 1799]

Gosport: Pursuant to a Commission from the High Court of Admiralty, for public sale at the India Arms, Inn, on Thursday the 5th day of December, 1799, at ten o’clock in the forenoon, viz -
About 44 thousand gallons of Geneva, in large casks and pipes; about seven hundred Hamburg brack staves, from 3 to 5 feet in length; about nine hundred thin rough staves,
being the entire cargo of the ship Christianders, Cornelis Faude Weyde, Master, detained and brought into the port of Portsmouth by His Majesty’s hired cutter the Ant, Lieutenant Matthew Alt, commander.
Samples will be shewn by Messrs Smith, St Barbe, and Marten, London, three days before the sale.

Portsmouth, 24 January 1801: Arrived two Danish vessels of considerable value, detained by the Ant and Advice cutters, and another, valued at £10,000 detained by the beaver, Captain Jones: also arrived the Julian and Two Friends, two other Danish vessels, detained by the Harpy and Saturn sloops. [Hampshire Chronicle, 26 January 1801]
