Portsmouth, 4 November 1815: A Court Martial was held this morning on Antonio James, on charges exhibited against him by the first Lieutenant of his Majesty’s ship Harrier, of insolence to a Midshipman, and refusing to assist in the duty of the ship, asserting that as he was a Supernumerary seaman, and only put on board that ship for a passage to America (being a native of Nova Scotia), there was no right in ordering him to do work. The charge was in part proved, but in consideration of circumstances, he was sentenced to receive only twenty-four lashes. Sir Art Dickson, Bart, President. [Hampshire Telegraph, 6 November 1815] 3D
