The following men were rescued by HMS Greyhound, Captain Peter Solgard after the Ludlow castle ran aground in Newfoundland in October 1724: Somervill, Sinclair , Perkins, Smith, Jenkins, Canngra, Brown Gray ADM 1/1473/ Captain’s letter from Bouler to [Burchett, Secretary of the Admiralty], Argyle, Nore, 27th January [?], 1725. Their initials are obscured by tight binding on left hand of the volume

In October 1724 the Ludlow Castle ran aground on a rock at Canseaux (or Canso) in Newfoundland. Captain St Lo with the assistance of Ct Thomas Winsmore of a merchant ship (Hazil Galley) saved her stores and attempted to shoar her up. This seemed effectiv at first, but later reports came that HMS Greyhound under Capt Peter Solguard was obliged to bring eight members of the Ludlow Castle's Crew to Cadiz. The ship was clarly seriously damaged on this occasion.
