Gosport, 5 March1752: On Tuesday arrived at Spithead from the Nore, his Majesty’s ship Phoenix, having on board the men draughted from the guardships at Chatham; and yesterday morning they were sent into the harbour and put on board the Tyger and Invincible, &c. The Tyger, Invincible, Penzance, and Jason men of war , are fitting for sea service with all expedition. [Kentish Post, 14 March 1752]

Gosport, 10 January 1751: On Saturday a Court Martial was held on board the Tyger man of war in the harbour, on a foremast man for desertion. He was sentenced to have twenty lashes along-side each of his Majesty’s ships in the harbour; and on Monday he underwent the punishment pursuant to his sentence. [Kentish Post, 19 January 1751]
